FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The International Center for Captive Insurance Education (ICCIE) rounded third and is heading into the 2011 home stretch with another strong year of growth and expansion. With nearly 800 enrollments since 2004 – more than half of those signing up for the complete Associate in Captive Insurance (ACI) designation – ICCIE continues to increase its presence in the industry while also adding to its plate of educational offerings.
Number of ACI grads tops the 200 mark
ICCIE graduates about 50 new ACIs per year, and it has now topped the mark of 200 ACI designees. As the ACI is increasing in importance and acceptance in the captive and risk management industries, the rate of graduating ACIs is expected to rise significantly in the coming years. For a list of recent ACIs, see the end of this press release. For a list of all ACIs since the launch of ICCIE, see the ICCIE website: http://www.iccie.org/content/ACI_Graduates.shtml
A Summer of ICCIE Events
It was quite a busy summer for ICCIE, but that didn’t stop festivities from occurring as the captive industry’s education program continued tradition by celebrating with three annual conference events.
ICCIE’s Annual Anniversary Celebration on August 8th at the Burlington Boathouse during the VCIA conference was another successful party marking the launch of ICCIE seven years ago. Sponsored by A.M. Best, Munich Re, TD Wealth Management, and Western Litigation, the event was another terrific unofficial kick-off to the VCIA conference. See the Recent ACI Recipients section below for photos of graduates receiving their diplomas at this event.
About a month later, at the South Carolina Captive Insurance Association (SCCIA) conference, ICCIE held its fifth Annual Soiree and Silent Auction. Sponsored by TD Wealth Management with additional support from Bartlett Actuarial and Kane, this event was also a success with an excellent crowd converging on Barbara Jean’s, kitty-corner to Charleston Place, SCCIA’s host hotel.
And just last week, in Salt Lake City, where Utah was hosting this year’s Western Region Captive Insurance Conference (WRCIC), Wednesday’s conference lunch featured ICCIE and a small balloon pop fundraiser. Thanks to event sponsor Pro Group Captive Management and the WRCIC for donating the conference lunch to ICCIE for the fourth year in a row.
A huge thanks goes out to all of the companies that donated gifts towards these events benefiting ICCIE, and also tremendous gratitude to the many individuals who worked on the organizing of these celebrations. All of your efforts and contributions are greatly appreciated and integral to the future success and stability of ICCIE! Thank you!
A New ICCIE Elective: “Captive Claims and Reinsurers”
A ninth ICCIE elective is in development and is slated to be offered early (first quarter) in 2012. The course is being spearheaded and designed by Matt Pifer, of Paul Frank & Collins. Subjects in the course will include (a) how a captive can have the best relationship with its reinsurance market; (b) best claims-handling practices; and (c) how to handle matters in ways that do not set off alarm bells for the reinsurers. Coverage issues will also be part of the discussion. This course is being developed in conjunction with a Vermont Workforce Employment and Training grant. Look for details about course dates later this fall; the first session will likely be in January of next year.
Announcing 2011 Harry House ICCIE Scholarships
At the 2011 VCIA conference in August, ICCIE Executive Director Mitch Cantor announced this year’s Harry House Scholarships to ICCIE. These scholarships, offered by Housing Authority Insurance Group, give one full-tuition scholarship and one individual-course scholarship to minority students studying risk management at the college or university level. For those of you who weren’t there, we are pleased to announce that the Harry House full ACI scholarship for 2011 goes to Brandon Taylor, a senior from Olivet College in Michigan, and the individual course scholarship goes to Jean Celestin, a sophomore from Illinois State University.

Congratulations to both of our winners, and our thanks to Housing Authority Insurance Group for providing these terrific opportunities.
